When You Purchase

Stripe processes your payment. We receive your email to deliver your license key. We store: email address, license tier, purchase date, and Stripe customer ID.

Anonymous Telemetry

The desktop app sends anonymous heartbeat pings every 6 hours containing: an anonymized machine identifier (SHA-256 hash, not reversible), app version, OS version, and feature usage counts. No audio, transcription text, or personal data is ever included. You can disable this in Settings → Privacy → Enable Telemetry.

Transcription History (only if you turn it on)

If you switch on history backup, the desktop app uploads, for each transcription: the transcription text itself, when it was dictated, how long transcription and cleanup took, which provider produced it, whether you pinned it or it failed, and an identifier for the device it came from. Audio is never uploaded. See Cloud History and Publishing below for how long we keep this, how to turn it off, and what happens if you publish it.

Public Profile (only if you claim one)

Claiming a username stores that username and, if you provide them, a display name and a short bio. Once you make your page live, all three are shown publicly on it.

Settings Sync (only if you turn it on)

If you switch on settings sync, part of your configuration — custom vocabulary, snippets, context profiles, your AI cleanup prompt and provider choice, and your custom profanity words — is stored in your Dikt account so it follows you to a new machine. Your API keys are never included.

Support

Support tickets collect your email and message content.

Backing Up Your History

History backup is off by default. Switch it on at Settings → Data & Storage → History → Back up transcription history to the cloud, and the app stores the full text of your transcriptions in your Dikt account, hosted on Supabase in the US. This copy is private to your account and has no automatic expiry — we keep it until you delete it. Turning the setting back off stops further uploads but does not delete what is already there; see Deleting Your Cloud Data below.

Publishing Makes Text World-Readable

Publishing is a separate opt-in on top of backup. Nothing is public until you claim a username and turn your page on. Once you do, each published transcription is readable by anyone, without an account:

• on your profile page at dikt.app/u/your-handle
• as an RSS feed at /u/your-handle/feed.xml and a JSON Feed at /u/your-handle/feed.json, which feed readers and aggregators can subscribe to
• through a public JSON API at /api/public/u/your-handle/transcriptions, which is served with permissive CORS headers (Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *) so any website can read it directly from a visitor's browser
• via sitemap.xml, where live profiles are listed so search engines find and index them

Dictation frequently contains passwords, medical details, and private correspondence. Treat publishing as posting to the open web.

Unpublishing Cannot Retract Copies

Unpublishing an item, pausing publishing, or taking your page offline removes it from dikt.app, from the feeds, and from the public API. It cannot pull back copies that have already been taken: search engines, feed readers, web archives, scrapers, and anyone who simply read the page may retain a cached copy indefinitely, and we have no control over those. Do not publish anything you would not be comfortable leaving on the internet permanently.

Deleting Your Cloud Data

In your dashboard, under History, Delete removes a single transcription and Delete everything from the cloud removes all of them. Deleting erases the transcription text on our servers immediately and unpublishes the item from the page, the feeds, and the API. We keep a deletion marker — the item identifier and the time it was deleted, not the text — for up to 90 days, so your other devices learn the item is gone; a daily job then destroys the record entirely.

Uninstalling the app or switching backup off does not delete cloud data. Use the dashboard, or email privacy@dikt.app and we will delete it for you. Deleting your account removes your transcriptions and your profile with it.
